The Technology

Our latest systems: Odyssey, which can control over 4000 readers; and Alliance, which can control up to 128 readers represent the pinnacle of security systems in their respective markets – large and small scale access control installations. They offer customers flexibility, speed, accuracy and reliability in operation. But what really makes Receptors unique is our commitment to quality – a personal service, which, when allied with leading-edge technology makes these security systems a very compelling proposition. Receptors provide both on-line support and offer maintenance contracts tailor-made to suit each individual client’s specific requirements.

True LAN Technology

One of the most significant advantages offered by Receptors’ LAN systems is that they may be connected directly on to the client’s network: this may be an existing network or one dedicated solely to the access control system. The system therefore operates at ‘true’ LAN speed – 10/100Mb – giving instantaneous response to activations and permitting practically unlimited data traffic as people use the systems at peak times.

Many other access control companies claim to have a LAN system but in truth they require an interface between the control panel and the network. This is the weak link and it means that the system can only operate at RS485 speed – just 9.6K. In practical terms, this means that operation of the system at busy periods is very slow, causing queues to form, particularly where barriers or turnstiles are installed. It is also a problem when anti-pass back is required.

With Odyssey capable of handling 4000+ readers, there may be fears that the performance of the LAN will be compromised. The packets of data required by Receptors’ systems are so small that there is no significant risk that a LAN might be adversely affected. Several of our clients’ IT departments have tested and confirmed this.

Flexible and Effective

Additionally, the Odyssey and Alliance systems operate in the user-friendly Windows environment and support leading database systems. Receptors have also proved themselves capable of adapting their technology to accommodate unusual or technically demanding user requirements.

The systems may be networked throughout multiple sites, permitting entry to each or any of these sites with the use of a single card or tag. They offer customised reporting facilities; alarm monitoring; equipment ‘tagging’; stand-alone or integrated badging, and a host of other features too numerous to mention.

Receptors’ systems will interface with multiple reading technologies, e.g. proximity or swipe, for which the same card may be used – useful for cashless vending. Smart card and biometrics are also compatible. The various technologies may be connected to a single system, and if necessary, even to the same panel. Clients who require both high security and ease of use will also be pleased to learn that the Receptors’ systems are fully compatible with the HID ‘Corporate 1000’ format.
